Interesting Item on Next City Council Agenda

On next Tuesday's City Council Meeting there is an interesting item on the agenda that covers a bunch of City of Tacoma transportation projects. The item is Resolution No. 38010 with a title of "Designating the following projects as Special Projects of Limited Duration". More details about this agenda item can be found here. Included in these special projects are a bunch of high-profile projects including the following transportation-specific projects:
  • Murray Morgan Bridge Rehabilitation
  • Streetcar Alternative Analysis, Design and Construction
  • Theater District Pedestrian Improvements
  • Sauro Site Improvements
  • Historic Water Ditch Trail, Phases II and III
  • Downtown Streetscape Improvements
  • Puyallup River Bridge Replacement
The City of Tacoma has said that classifying these projects in this way will help increase the chances of receiving grants since a lot of these projects are not completely funded.

Another transportation-related item on the agenda is a public comment period related to Pierce County's efforts on Canyon Road. The details of what is happening here is that the City of Tacoma or more specifically TPU will give Pierce County some surplus land for the Canyon Road extension in exchange for providing better access to the South Service Center.
