I couldn't hazard a guess about how it will pencil out financially for PT. Bonney Lake's tax contribution to PT is about 2 million; about 1% of their total budget. I have no idea how much PT spends serving Bonney Lake.

If the far-flung communities withdraw from PT, though, it would leave PT with a constituency far more likely to support service increases, even if those increases require tax hikes. This would open up the possibilty for a far more comprehensive urban transit system, rather than a skeletal rural commuter system.

If East Pierce withdraws, I wonder how the math actually works out here. Is PT money ahead without Bonney Lakes's tax dollars, and therefore not required to provide them service?

I also wonder how many Bonney Lake voters will remember (come next election time) that their current elected officials actually recommended for their citizens to vote to eliminate bus service to their community.
